Planning an AI-assisted music video

A creator's workflow for moving from a music concept to a consistent, reviewed final release.

Start with a production brief

Write a short description of the song's mood, language, genre, audience, and visual world. Establish whether the video is performance-led, narrative, or abstract. Keep these notes separate from the actual lyrics so instructions never appear in the song.

In practice: Define a small set of visual references, recurring character traits and a color palette before generating scenes.

Lock the audio before editing

Confirm the final track, overall duration, instrumental breaks and sections with vocals. Mark transitions and important beats. Replacing the audio late can invalidate shot lengths, lip movements and subtitles.

In practice: Use one approved master as the reference for all landscape and vertical derivatives.

Design a coherent shot list

Assign each musical section a visual purpose and approximate duration. Reuse settings and character descriptions carefully to reduce continuity drift. Prefer a few strong recurring visual motifs over unrelated generated clips.

In practice: For each shot track prompt, source, usage rights, aspect ratio, and review decision.

Check permissions and disclosure

Review the rights attached to stock footage, samples, artwork, trademarks, voices and likenesses. A technically available asset is not automatically licensed for commercial distribution. Determine whether a destination requires synthetic-media disclosure.

In practice: Record the provenance of assets before rendering a publish-ready version.

Export and inspect every format

Review horizontal and vertical compositions independently: faces, titles and action must remain visible in mobile safe areas. Check audio synchronization, caption timing, transitions, black frames and the complete final minute of the video.

In practice: Watch the exported files from start to finish before approving publication.
